Loan

Two weeks ago, Mayor Plaza ask the Sangguniang Bayan for an authority to negotiate and sign for a loan with DBP and PNB in the amount of P120M to finance various projectts. Among the projects being proposed by the Mayor are the concreting of the Minbahandi farm to market road, the rehabilitation of the public market, the rehabilitation of Punta dike, the completion of the municipal gym, the repainting of the municipal hall, and the construction of a legislative house.

The Sangguniang Bayan deliberated on the issue and all its members expressed their apprehension on the proposal of the Mayor. In the regular session last October 21, the SB passed a resolution urging the Mayor to reconsider his plan to apply and negotiate for such loan. In the said resolution, the SB made clear its view that such loan will not be to the best interest of the municipality.

  1. To all SB members job well done. Keep it up and for the best interest of our municipality do everything what you think is best.

  2. Who's gonna pay for the loan and besides all the proposed project mentioned are not income generating. The municipality should conduct a public hearing and let the constituents know whats going on.

  6. unpaved roads will not make nasipit any less of a municipality....... but then 120Million will indebt it to something which it might not be able to pay later. the council should always be cautios.. kudos to you for a very practical decision!

  7. infrastructure projects are the most common sources of 'campaign money' that is why projects usually proliferate before election time. nasipit, at the moment, does not have any activity which can become sources of money, loan must be the easiest way..... beware!!!!!

  8. All the proposed projects except for the concreting of the Minbahandi FMR are okay. The proposed concreting is not justifiable, considering the economic benefits that can be generated from such project. The Punta dike construction is one such good proposal and also with the Public market rehab. The other projects can wait. I would like to suggest that for the Punta Dike, the LGU can submit proposal to funding agencies, like JICA and ADB. JICA's priorities includes basic social services, like potable water supply, health facilities, flood control, irrigation...I think the LGU can apply for a loan but on a lesser amount just for the Public Market Rehab. the LGU will not be financially burdened since the public market operations is income generating - it can pay for the loan..

  9. Our public market is supposed to be income generating but for a long time the municipal government is subsidizing its operation. In other words, its income is not enough to cover its operational expenses.

Im just wondering if there was a study made why our public market is not generating adequate income to cover for its operational expenses. If we have a Market Administrator, the people of Nasipit deserve the right to know if he has plans to increase the income of the market, adopt some cost cutting measures etc.For some of us who are not in Nasipit right now ,We will appreciate very much if we could be informed tru your blog. This question might have been asked and answered during the campaign period last election.
